This barn's unusual roof line with no overhang on the front struck me as unattractive.. I wondered why the builder chose this design. Do you have any ideas as to why? Tuesday I link to Barn Charm where you can see many more old barns.
I have no idea about the roof--in fact I even wonder about houses that are built like that. There are not very many built like that, but they always strike me as odd.

I like the layer of grass in the foreground.

Lovely Mansard roof. The wonder of wood

i think it's a beautiful barn!

You've found a barn with a gambrel roof, which is supposed to provide extra space in the interior upper level. That type of roof is common in Canada on the east coast, in places like Prince Edward Island. Definitely an odd looking design but this barn has charm indeed as it decays back to earth in your image.

sort of has a pink tint. guess it use to be red. i would think. ha. ha!! (:

Dans un endroit idéal, au milieu des champs.

I love the colours here, and all the details of that beautiful barn..most of all I love the way
you captured it with the blur grasses in front !

Nice little timeless capture with soft color comp and lovely rich green carpet.

Nice image, although my worry with this place would be one big gust of wind and it would be over !

quelle forme cette ferme superb eavec le herbe quel tonailté bois, superbe.

it is a bit odd. maybe the extra sun is the reason its face has freckles. :)

No idea about the roof line except to think someone made a bad decision in doing it. This looks like a three story barn with stables on the lower level and two floors above perhaps for feed and hay. Unusual barn.

Love the texture of the barnwood and the somewhat ranshackle condition. I also really like the distinct bands of color with the tan weeds, green grass, brown dirt and gray sky. I'm not so sure about the out-of-focus, wispy weeds rising above the fence. They are oaky, but also a distraction.

The thing I noticed was a roughness on the front of it.

The 'no overhang' caught my attention 1st thing & it IS pretty odd, but not really unattractive, I don't think... I think she's a beauty & I want those sliding barn doors at the bottom! Nice
Thank you for joining =)

Maybe it was an attempt to keep some of the rain/snow off the sides, but then again, it's not big enough to be effective-dunno!
5 Jun 2012 3:57pm
I like the original roof shape and certainly well built for a reason but, not knowing your country, it escapes me. Perhaps to soften the big rainstorms??
5 Jun 2012 4:26pm
I know what you mean. It is a shame because the rest of the barn has a lot of charm.
5 Jun 2012 5:45pm
It's probably a cheaper, quicker way off doing things. I agree it's a bit ugly but, it has lasted a long time it seems.
5 Jun 2012 5:46pm
I like the soft color and the detail of the texture of the barn. Very nice image.
5 Jun 2012 5:47pm
This is a truly ugly barn Don! The texture is wonderful but the design leaves a lot to be desired! ;-)
5 Jun 2012 6:21pm
It's really not a very charming barn !!! I like the texture and natural colors of wood ... Nice shot

Superb capture! Wonderful composition.
Good luck !!!

Charming barn and love the knotted timber; we have some similiar barns in our county. Great shot!
5 Jun 2012 8:49pm
Possibly seen its best years, as it doesn't look too strong, but another barn to your collection.
5 Jun 2012 8:59pm
That does seem weird, especially when it rains and the water drips down the front. Unless it's much easier/cheaper to make it this way (but that doesn't seem to outweigh the cost of having to replace the barn much more frequently). Hmm. Cool image, though!

That is a nice old barn picture. Love all the different shades of wood.
5 Jun 2012 11:29pm
Nice old barn! I think the roof is strange too, but I like the rest of the design, and the grass and fence in the foreground is great!
6 Jun 2012 12:00am
I still think it is a pretty barn. Great POV! I like the grass in the foreground.

I wonder if it is for improved aerodynamics.
6 Jun 2012 3:00am
and like the other barns, it seems like it's abandoned too..

Maybe it needs a reno, too.
