Railroad Barn

I liked this barn and its setting for the wooden fences, nearby railroad and the old farm implements. I post a barn picture each Tuesday to support Tricia's Barn Charm where the number of barns shown grows larger week by week. Several have wondered why barns then to be red. Here is one account of the reason:
"Inasmuch as ready-made paint was not available, a farmer mixed his own. He discovered that skimmed milk, lime and red iron oxide made a plastic-like coating that hardened quickly and lasted for years. Occasionally, it hardened too well and peeled off in sheets. Linseed oil was subsequently added to the recipe to provide the necessary soaking quality. Thus American “barn red” was born." Read more: http://www.grit.com/Community/Why-Are-Barns-Red.aspx?

I love finding old tractors like those. Terrific shot. I know you were shooting the barn primarily but for me - the tractors are the main attraction.

very attractive leading lines here, don, and the contrast bw the grey-white and the bright red of the barn is very enticing as well!

Somehow, the dusting of snow gives this even more a sense of never really changing . . the equipment was likely parked there in the 1940's and the last train to pass by left a heady mix of smoke and steam with a little sharp soot . . . way to be.

I've always wondered why barns are red, because "they" say bulls really don't like the color red. Anyway, this is a nice picture.

Big Beautiful Barn bulging in the Bleakness of Winter's withdrawal. :-) Say 5 times fast, Don. I like the slashing lines of those fences too, that seem to race by and imply busy times in other seasons.
