Driftwood that had washed up into its own coastal pool. I liked the way the logs were aligned and I thought they looked like well-weathered bones. I decided it would make a good conversion to black and white. I hope you like it.

Very very nice. It has the feel of one of your old film shots.

Yes, they do have that boney look, a tibula (?) perhaps! :O)
14 Dec 2011 6:32am
Beautiful image, with the still water and in B & W it has an almost surreal quality about it
14 Dec 2011 7:27am
The conversion is good, how unusual that the tree's have found their way here.
14 Dec 2011 10:11am
Beautiful Don. I trust you are standing on one too.
14 Dec 2011 10:39am
This really foes look like a boneyard...or maybe bone pool. Amazing capture and a perfect title. genie
14 Dec 2011 11:38am
Yep, I think the PP adds to the shot
14 Dec 2011 11:41am
I like it a lot. You made a good call with the black and white. The calmness and reflective nuances are ideal for that.

brilliant dof, wonderful mood! i love these agglomerations of driftwood in the northwest ... have seen it nowhere else so far !!
14 Dec 2011 1:10pm
They really do look like a series of floating bones. So quiet and peaceful.
14 Dec 2011 1:14pm
i can almost hear the driftwood talking to each other: 'hey, guys, let's arrange ourselves into a perfect composition as Don's approaching...'
14 Dec 2011 2:32pm
I do like it!
14 Dec 2011 3:02pm
Oh, this one is fantastic...one seldom sees water that still....
14 Dec 2011 3:25pm
Superbe cet ensemble de nature morte, quel vieux troncs avec les reflets, fantastique image.
Bravo et belle soriée

This is lovely Don. The alignment you mention is great as are the reflections and the amount of detail still visible in the leafy shrub background. I think the range of grays here compares favorably to some of your scanned medium format negatives.

B&W makes it a sort of primitive scene .
I love it .
14 Dec 2011 4:18pm
Love the calmness in the water...a very beautiful b/w!
14 Dec 2011 4:54pm
That really looks like bones of dinosaurs ^_^
14 Dec 2011 7:12pm
And the result is very good. The luminosity of some of the driftwood make an excellent contrast. Excellent framing.
14 Dec 2011 7:16pm
The logs, and their reflections, are gorgeous and black-and-white.
14 Dec 2011 9:24pm
wonderful capture. fine reflections
14 Dec 2011 10:28pm
Fabulous capture, Don. Very serene and calm!
14 Dec 2011 10:59pm

Your hunch on the pictorial potential here was spot-on, Don . . an instant classic to my eye.
15 Dec 2011 8:26am
Yes, the dead trees do look like bones. Don, when I started with digital photography a number of years ago, I had no interest in black and white. But, now I find I like it more all the time. I guess it's an acquired taste! Or the more I learn about photography, the more I appreciate black and white. I don't know about the photoblogosphere, but black and white prints are increasingly popular at photo club competitions.

The B&W is perfect!
I'm picturing the days of the dinosaurs. :)
