A drive-by shot of this interesting barn. While processing I wondered about the high windows and how the space inside was actually used.
We don't have barns like this here and I've always admired them.

This design is one I haven't seen before.

Un tono muy suave, me gusta.

Sitting on anti-rat posts, the barn looks as though it's ready to take-off!

I was about to say the same as Chris in that it looks capable of flight ! The way these places weather is like looking at a time-lapse.

Vestige d'un passé récent où le béton, l'acier et le verre ne monopolisaient pas encore l'architecture ...

Full of the sweet smell of hay perhaps? Lovely hovering barn

J'imagine que c'était réservée au stockage de denrées, non ?
Whatever, it's a very fine shot.

I believe sometimes you'll see strange windows in barns and other out-buildings because many of them were repurposed from other uses. These might have been what was available and so they simply put them at eye level from a raised inside floor...just a guess. Have a good weekend, Don. :-)

Very cool find, Don. I love the weathered look, and especially like that you did not saturate the red.

What a cool old barn the placement of the windows is quit einteresting

It can fly! That is an interesting barn. I wonder if the wings held animal pens and/or a milking parlor back in the day.
27 Aug 2010 3:08pm
I have never seen that design before. I wonder about the use of the "wings"
27 Aug 2010 3:32pm
Seeing it raised up on pillars, I wonder how much the floor creaks when a herd of dairy cows treks across. I like the streaky red paint with the bare wood wearing through.

It's a great old barn. Your image is wonderfully saturated with color. I like this, Don.
27 Aug 2010 4:55pm
I'm sure it's a UFO in disguise, it ain't normal for a barn to hover like that :0
27 Aug 2010 6:53pm
yea..it really has wings!!
27 Aug 2010 8:03pm
Fantastic old barn with wings, great title. I like the faded red paint. Just a wonderful find.

Belle texture, belle couleur, belle forme !... ))
Tout pour plaire. Superbe.

Nice capture of this old barn..

Great drive-by shot ! Nice colors and composition.
28 Aug 2010 3:13am
It looks to be slightly precarious on those stilts.
28 Aug 2010 3:30am
The windows do seem too high to actually look out...so must have been for letting light in. I love that roof...looks like a real shake roof. And that makes me wonder just how old it really is.
28 Aug 2010 11:15am
love your barn-documentary!
28 Aug 2010 12:42pm
Don, I too love this image and that you didn't saturate the barn but left it as is.
My guess is that this was a chicken or poultry barn of some sort. That would explain the high windows and being built up off the ground (away from rats and such). But I also see in that open door, what could be the second level for the poultry.
28 Aug 2010 3:35pm
it does look like a pretty huge space.. must be full of stuff in there. :D
28 Aug 2010 5:17pm
I agree....wonder what they were used for....maybe individual stalls....but weird placement of windows. Definitely an "after thought" addition.... ;)
28 Aug 2010 6:25pm
I've actually been thinking about starting a meme (maybe) of countryside barns lately! I love old barns & there's sooo many strung out across the US. Maybe I'll just post one on a certain day of the week... maybe?! Who knows!
29 Aug 2010 3:55am
now that's a fine old barn. great find.
29 Aug 2010 12:43pm
So those are anti-rat posts? Makes sense but seems unusual to me.
29 Aug 2010 11:45pm
Looks like it's ready to move! Great shot!
