A dune image I took in Death Valley National Park. The constant breeze erases footprints almost immediately which helps a photographer get pristine views of the shifting sand. On the other hand, the deep sand makes walking very difficiult...and one worries about blowing sand getting in the equipment. This shot has appeared in a former blog.
Beautiful composition. I've never been there but it reminds me of White Sands in NM somewhat.

This shot is worth a second glace, probably ten extra glances! Stunning!

Excellent capture! The b&w processing is perfect for this image.

The shape of the dunes are almost sensual. The sea makes the same sort of waves on/in the sand.

Beautiful details, composition and soft light. Bravo! :)

Good morning Don,
I am excited and enjoy the sight. The reproduction is more than just perfect. The color selection is well chosen and appropriate. The general view is brilliant. For that I give you 10 stars ********** <<Today it is sunny and warm, but it blows a little wind in between. The wide view is cloudy something.>>
I wish you a beautiful, sunny days and all the best. e-mail following the weekend.
Dear greetings Christel

Don, certainly a beautiful photo of the dunes. The "ripples" created by the winds add such wonderful texture and energy to the image. Excellent!

Simply brilliant, the lack of any sign of man or footprints in the sand adds so much to this as does the depth and tones, trekkign through sand can be so tiring for sure

Great perspective; the sand patterns are amazing!
25 Mar 2010 2:01pm

Great sweeping cruves. Your viewpoint is excellent. And of course your range of grays is wonderful.
25 Mar 2010 2:26pm
Ah yes, superb framing, the effect of sand is well returned, great depth of fields, very good photograph Don

This is gorgeous, Don. I was just down there and the dunes at Stovepipe Wells were covered with footprints. I couldn't get a shot without them. So, I went to the Eureka Dunes in the far north of the park and found stretches that were totally pristine. But, while waiting for the magical late afternoon light, a dust storm developed and I had to beat a hasty retreat.

Wow, i can see why this has been posted elsewhere....looks like a prize winner to me!!!! composition is just perfection.....details, the whole package!!!! i'd be real concerned with that blowing sand tho......on the camera........glad you didn't have a problem!!!!
25 Mar 2010 11:00pm
whoa! amazing work! the wide view and composition is fantastic and the tonal range is really special - the transitions of tones across each ripple emphasise the shapes and forms very well indeed! i also like the DOF you achieved here - one can look far into the distance and still see good sharpness and detail!

Wow! What a shot! What is even funnier, last night my brother and I were talking about Zane Grey books and I mentioned Wanderer of the Wasteland. I cannot remember much about it, it has probably been 35 yrs since I read it. Its main setting was Death Valley. Imagine my surprise coming here to find this shot.

I saw one of Steve's today that blew me away. I have to say the same thing as I did for that other image: you need to have this photo for sale. This is utterly amazing. Everything that is right in photography applies to this image. Exquisite!
