Destruction Island Lighthouse

Shot along the Washington (state) coast. Although this shot appears to be nothing more than surf and clouds, if one looks closely Destruction Island's Lighthouse beacon can be seen on the horizon. The 30-acre, tabletop island rises roughly eighty feet above the surrounding water and is bordered by steep bluffs. The Coast Guard, trying to save on costs, made the decision to shut off the light for good in April, 2008. The island itself is now a nature preserve.
